Add page numbers to a PDF — free, no watermark

Stamp clean, professional page numbers onto any PDF. Choose the corner, the starting number, and the format — then download, all without uploading a thing.

How to add page numbers

  1. 1Drop your PDF into the box below.
  2. 2Pick a position (bottom center, corners, or top), a starting number, and a format like ‘Page 1’ or ‘1 of 12’.
  3. 3Click ‘Add numbers & download’ — the numbered PDF saves instantly.

Court bundles, dissertations, board packs — plenty of documents are rejected or just plain confusing without page numbers. Adding them after the fact usually means reopening the source file, if you even have it. This stamps them straight onto the PDF.

It's also one of the tools where privacy matters most, since the files involved are often legal or academic. pdfia numbers them locally, so nothing is disclosed to any server in the process.

Frequently asked questions

Is the file uploaded to add the numbers?

No. The numbers are drawn onto the pages by your own browser; the PDF never leaves your device.

Can I start counting from a number other than 1?

Yes — set any starting number. Handy when the document is part of a larger set or has an unnumbered cover.

What numbering formats are available?

Plain (1), ‘Page 1’, and ‘1 of N’ where N is the total page count. Combine with a start offset as needed.

Will the numbers cover my content?

They're placed in the margin area (about 8 mm from the edge) in a small, neutral gray — visible but discreet. Documents with unusually tight margins may need a quick check.
